First Gen using residual LNG supply to power Batangas power plants

First Gen defers LNG shipment originally scheduled to arrive this month.

First Gen Corp. said the delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its most recent contract with TG Global Trading Co. (Tokyo Gas) had been deferred to a later date.

Supply from the agreement signed in June was supposed to arrive this month but deferred to a later date. First Gen gave assurance it still has enough fuel supply.

Francis Giles Puno, First Gen president and chief operating officer, told reporters of this development in a spot interview in Albay.

Puno did not provide a date as to when the 125,000-cubic meter LNG shipment from Tokyo Gas will arrive.

“We still have residual gas so we have to deplete it first,” Puno said.

First Gen is using LNG for its gas-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,017 megawatts (MW) in Batangas.

First Gen as a power company generates a combined capacity of 3,666 MW using natural gas, geothermal, hydroelectric, wind and solar power technologies.

The company targets a total capacity of 13,000 MW over the next six years.
