Super typhoon Julian inflicted damage to agriculture estimated at P607.38 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The DA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center said this was raised 26.2 percent higher than initially reported at only P481.27 million.
The damage was computed on 25,407 metric tons (MT) of goods tended by 33,110 farmers and fisherfolk in 17,344 hectares of farmland across the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon.
The rice sector took the brunt of the devastation as 21,875 metric tons of play worth an estimated 427.65 million were damaged.
Another P92.68 million worth of irrigation facilities were ruined and 2,778 MT of corn worth an estimated P38.95 million was wasted. Still another
P31.13 million worth of 755 MT of high-value crops were damaged alongside P13.22 million of farm infrastructures and P3.76 million worth of 1,558 heads of livestock and poultry.
