The Department of Agriculture (DA) has broadened the country’s agricultural reach in the Gulf region, with 18 metric tons of premium MD2 pineapples arriving in Dubai on June 28. Sourced from farms in Tampakan, South Cotabato, the 1,500-box shipment entered through the Port of Khor Fakkan and is now being distributed across the UAE.
A formal launch was held at Dubai’s Al Aweer Fruit and Vegetable Market, attended by Philippine embassy and trade officials, along with private sector partners. The DA noted this move responds to rising demand for Philippine fresh produce and supports efforts to diversify export markets beyond traditional destinations. Regular shipments are planned every two weeks.
The initiative is led by Davao-based Mensch Fil-Am Trading and Avante Agri-Products Philippines, with distribution handled by UAE’s Octagon General Trading. The same partners also supply bananas, mangoes, durian, and pomelo to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.
According to a 2025 FAO report, Philippine pineapple exports grew 13.6% last year, reaching 775,028 metric tons — making the country the world’s second-largest exporter, behind only Costa Rica.
The DA said the expansion aligns with goals to modernize farming, improve logistics, and boost farmers’ incomes by strengthening market access and global competitiveness for high-value crops. Its Dubai office will continue assisting exporters to meet requirements and connect with buyers across the region.
