New rules at NAIA aim to curb ‘misuse’ of VIP protocols

The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) has implemented new rules at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) aimed at curbing the misuse of VIP privileges.

Effective immediately, fees for Very Important Persons (VIPs) and Important Persons (IPs) seeking expedited services have adjusted from P800 to P8,000.

According to the NNIC, the previous fee structure created security vulnerabilities and operational inefficiencies allowing any passenger to bypass standard procedures. The organization’s new protocol limits VIP courtesies to essential personnel only, with all services now managed by the NNIC’s dedicated VIP Assistance Personnel.

In addition to the increased fees, non-passengers will no longer be allowed to accompany VIPs or IPs, and annual access passes will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Tailored fees for non-VIPs seeking similar services will also be introduced, aligning NAIA with international standards.

NNIC emphasized that these changes prioritize fairness and efficiency for all travelers, while ensuring the necessary security measures for dignitaries and officials with critical responsibilities. The move follows the implementation of higher parking rates at the airport, which are intended to fund ongoing facility maintenance and upgrades.
