Major transportation hub planned for Quezon City

Four government agencies are joining forces to construct a new transportation hub in Quezon City, designed to be larger than the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). Referred to as “Project HUB,” the initiative will be built on a three-hectare lot owned by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) located at the city’s elliptical circle.

In a statement, the GSIS announced that the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City local government have partnered to advance this infrastructure project. Project HUB is a direct response to a Presidential directive aimed at developing an intermodal rail-city bus terminal and depot in the city.

The hub is expected to enhance access to the Philcoa Station of the MRT-7 by 2027 and connect the North Triangle Common Station in North Edsa to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.

GSIS has allocated the strategically located property at the corner of the elliptical road and Commonwealth Avenue for the project. The DOTr, with support from the World Bank, will oversee the planning, financing, and implementation of the hub. Meanwhile, the MMDA will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study focusing on traffic management and engineering design. The Quezon City government will facilitate the necessary permits to ensure smooth progress.

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso emphasized the project’s goal of creating a modern, efficient transport facility. “The end view of Project HUB is a world-class intermodal transport hub that streamlines the bus travel experience, focusing on efficiency, passenger comfort, and seamless connectivity with other transport modes including the MRT-7,” Veloso said.

IAs studies and preparatory designs are underway, the GSIS, the MMDA, and the Quezon City government will initiate a temporary solution by providing approximately 300 additional parking slots on the GSIS property for public use.

“This project has a pivotal role to serve our members and pensioners better, ensuring that their needs are met with integrity and excellence,” Veloso said.
