BPI recognized as “Sustainability Company of the Year” at Asia CEO Awards 2024

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has been named “Sustainability Company of the Year” at the Asia CEO Awards 2024, highlighting its strong commitment to sustainable finance and environmental stewardship since 2008.

The Asia CEO Awards, a leading business recognition event in Southeast Asia, honors organizations for their significant contributions to stakeholders. BPI’s integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into its strategies was pivotal in receiving this accolade. The bank’s sustainability agenda aims to promote financial inclusion and sustainable development while enhancing social responsibility.

Eric Luchangco, BPI chief finance officer and chief sustainability officer, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award affirms our dedication to embedding sustainability in all aspects of our business. It reflects our commitment to creating long-term value for our clients, the environment, and the communities we serve.”

In addition to the top honor, BPI was a finalist in two other categories: “Top Employer of the Year” and “Wellness Company of the Year,” further demonstrating its positive impact both internally and externally.

BPI has been at the forefront of sustainable finance in the Philippines, being the first bank to commit to a time-bound coal phase-out and launching its Sustainable Development Finance (SDF) Program in 2008. This initiative has funded over 417 ESG projects, totaling P277 billion, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas reduction and inclusive economic growth.
