Pampanga power supply to get boost with new mobile substation

Pampanga power supply services are set for improvement as Pampanga 2 Electric Cooperative (Pelco II), co-managed by Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), begins operations of its first-ever mobile substation in Mabalacat City. The 10-megavolt-ampere (MVA) mobile substation is designed to provide flexible capacity for Pelco II’s distribution network, addressing the growing power demand in the area.

Meralco announced the new facility’s activation on Tuesday, saying this will help augment power in areas served by Pelco II. The mobile substation is located at Pelco II’s Mabiga substation and includes a power transformer and accessories, all mounted on a low-bed trailer, allowing for quick relocation to other substations as needed for capacity upgrades.

“This first-of-its-kind project is intended to ensure stable electricity service to meet the rising energy needs of Mabalacat City’s homes and businesses,” said Joe-Mel Zaporteza, Pelco II chief management advisor. “We are collaborating closely with local government officials and other stakeholders to implement long-term, innovative solutions for our consumers.”

In addition to the mobile substation, Pelco II is developing a 20 MVA substation in Mabalacat, which is slated to be energized early next year. Last year, the cooperative also inaugurated a new 20 MVA substation in Sta. Barbara, Bacolor, Pampanga.

Meralco senior vice president Arnel Casanova emphasized the importance of partnerships with electric cooperatives like Pelco II in driving economic growth and enhancing energy reliability. “By empowering electric cooperatives, we contribute to accelerating the province’s economic development while ensuring that more Filipinos benefit from reliable, sustainable electricity,” he said.

Meralco, together with its local partner Comstech Integration Alliance Inc., has been managing Pelco II since 2014. Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO of Converge ICT, also leads Comstech.

The introduction of the mobile substation marks a significant step in enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for power.
