GCash partners with Island Pacific to boost digital inclusion for Filipinos in the U.S.

GCash, the country’s leading financial app, has announced a partnership with Island Pacific Seafood Market, a popular Filipino supermarket chain in the United States, to enhance digital financial inclusion for the Filipino community abroad. With over 20 locations in California and Nevada, Island Pacific is a key hub for Filipino Americans, and the collaboration will integrate GCash’s digital payment services, including features like payments and international bank cash-in, allowing U.S. customers to transfer funds easily to the Philippines.

During the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Ren-ren Reyes, president of G-Xchange, the company behind GCash, emphasized the significance of the partnership, coinciding with Filipino American History Month and GCash’s 20th anniversary. “With the growth of GCash, we are redefining financial inclusion in the Philippines and ensuring our services are accessible wherever Filipinos are,” Reyes said.

This partnership aims to serve the approximately 5 million Filipinos across the U.S., particularly in states like California, where there are an estimated 1.2 million Filipino residents. GCash is positioning itself as a vital tool for strengthening connections between the Filipino diaspora and their families in the Philippines.

Island Pacific CEO Maite Defensor expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the benefits for the Filipino community in the U.S. “This partnership offers our customers the ability to perform business transactions with over 1,900 retailers back home,” she said.

To celebrate the launch, Island Pacific customers who make their first U.S. bank cash-in via the GCash app will receive 500 loyalty points, redeemable for a USD5 discount on their next grocery purchase. The promotion will begin in October across Island Pacific stores.

With features like the international bank cash-in and upcoming services like GSave, which allows overseas Filipinos to open high-interest savings accounts in pesos, GCash is solidifying its role in advancing financial accessibility for Filipinos worldwide.
