Cebu Pacific leads domestic market in 2024, maintains top spot in passenger and cargo growth

Cebu Pacific remains the top domestic carrier in the Philippines, with a significant lead in both passenger and cargo traffic during the first three quarters of 2024, according to the latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

The CAB report reveals that Cebu Pacific transported 10.72 million passengers between January and September 2024, while its subsidiary, Cebgo, carried an additional 1.70 million domestic passengers. This solidifies Cebu Pacific’s dominant position in the local aviation market.

Following Cebu Pacific, PAL Express flew 6.50 million passengers, while Philippines AirAsia carried 385,000 passengers. Philippine Airlines (PAL) served 418,144 domestic travelers during the same period.

Smaller carriers also contributed to the market, with AirSwift Transport Inc. carrying 327,241 passengers, Royal Air Charter Services Inc. transporting 30,475 passengers, and Island Aviation Corp. serving 8,959 passengers.

Overall, the domestic aviation sector saw a rise in passenger traffic, with the total number of travelers reaching 23.6 million—an eight percent increase from the 21.8 million passengers recorded in the same period last year.

In terms of cargo, Cebu Pacific led the pack, hauling 76.43 million kilograms of freight. PAL Express followed with 66.9 million kilograms, while PAL transported 13.85 million kilograms.

Other carriers in the cargo sector included AirAsia Philippines with 14.88 million kilograms, AirSwift Transport with 3.75 million kilograms, and Island Aviation, which carried 2.27 million kilograms. SEAIR-I Inc. and Sunlight Express transported smaller amounts, at 1.68 million and 7,033 kilograms, respectively.

As the local aviation market continues to grow, Cebu Pacific’s strong performance highlights its dominance in both the passenger and cargo segments, setting the pace for the country’s aviation industry.
