GSIS honors top LGUs, agencies for safeguarding public assets

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) recently recognized 24 local government units (LGUs) and two government agencies for their commitment to protecting public assets during the second Seal of Protection Awards: Pagpupugay sa mga Kaagapay ng GSIS. The event, held on 28 November 2024, at the GSIS Head Office in Pasay City, celebrated efforts to secure government properties through insurance coverage—a key responsibility under the Property Insurance Law (Republic Act No. 656).

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso praised the awardees, saying, “This ceremony reflects the spirit of Bagong Pilipinas—leadership focused on responsibility and smart use of public resources.”

The Gold Awards were presented to the city government of Iloilo, Makati, Pasig, and Valenzuela for their exemplary efforts. Silver Awards went to LGUs from Aurora, Isabela; Davao de Oro; Iloilo Province; Navotas; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Solano, Nueva Vizcaya; and Tinambac, Camarines Sur. Bronze Awards were given to 13 other municipalities, including Cabatuan, Iloilo; Caloocan; and Quezon City.

Special awards were also given to two national agencies: the Bureau of the Treasury for its leadership in the National Indemnity Insurance Program, and the Department of Education Provident Fund for its provision of accident insurance to education staff.

Veloso urged more LGUs and agencies to follow suit, emphasizing that protecting public assets is crucial to ensuring uninterrupted public service and achieving national goals.
