Alsons expanding renewable energy footprint beyond Mindanao

Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. energy arm, Alsons Power Group, is ramping up efforts to expand its renewable energy (RE) portfolio and extend its footprint beyond Mindanao. The company on Thursday announced plans to construct the 37.8-MW Sindangan-Zambo River power plant in Zamboanga del Norte and the 53-MW Bago hydro power plant in Negros Occidental.

Additionally, Alsons will launch its first large-scale solar project in Mindanao this year, with details on capacity and location undisclosed at this point. The company is seeking increased access to reliable, affordable energy as it positions as leader in sustainable power generation.

“We are focused on creating lasting value through safe, reliable electricity, with ambitious goals for growth and sustainability,” said Antonio Miguel Alcantara, Alsons Power CEO.

Alsons is expanding outside Mindanao, with the first phase of the 95.2 MW Bohol diesel power station nearing completion. The facility will serve as a backup power source for Bohol, ensuring electricity supply during grid disruptions caused by calamities. Alsons plans to leverage opportunities in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market and Ancillary Reserve market over the next three to five years.

Last year, the company completed the 14.5-MW Siguil Hydro power plant, further solidifying its position in both the hydro and thermal power sectors with a total capacity of nearly 500 MW.
