The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the importation ban on poultry products from France while imposing a temporary ban on imports from the US states of Indiana, New York, and Pennsylvania. The decision follows a report from French authorities confirming the resolution of avian influenza cases in the country, while the ban on the US states is in response to recent H5N1 avian flu outbreaks reported in February 2025.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said that the lifting of the French ban would support the local poultry industry, with strict monitoring and quarantine protocols in place to ensure biosecurity. The temporary restriction on US poultry imports affects products like meat, eggs, and chicks, which are critical to the Philippines’ poultry supply chain.
The Philippines imported over 472 million kilograms of chicken in 2024, with 12.3 percent sourced from the US, though specific data from the affected states was unavailable. Retail for whole dressed chicken in local markets currently range from P190 to P240 per kg.
