Grab champions welfare-driven gig work at partner event

Grab Philippines and its motorcycle taxi partner MOVE IT reaffirmed their commitment to helping shape the future of gig work during the Saludo Partner Appreciation Concert. Held before thousands of platform partners, the event underscored the companies’ continued investment in a gig economy that is not only tech-enabled and flexible, but also safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable.

Grab Philippines country head Ronald Roda emphasized the company’s role as more than just a digital platform. “We recognize that gig work plays an increasingly critical role in the Philippine economy — and with that comes the responsibility to lead,” Roda said. “Grab is committed not just to being part of the gig economy, but to improving it.”

Over the past decade, Grab has emerged as the country’s leading platform for digital gig work, setting standards for worker welfare, benefits integration, and inclusive tech innovation. Its partner-focused initiatives include on-trip insurance, access to government social protection programs like SSS and Pag-IBIG, and career tools such as the AI Merchant Assistant for MSMEs.

The company’s localized approach is central to its commercial strategy, designed around Filipino workers’ specific needs and economic realities. “The Filipino gig economy experience deserves its own playbook,” said Roda. “We are proud to be writing it alongside our partners.”

MOVE IT general manager Wayne Jacinto echoed this mission, noting that the company’s entry into the motorcycle taxi space aims to professionalize informal labor. “Together with Grab, we are proving that platforms can be both scalable and socially responsible,” he said.

The Saludo Concert, featuring major Filipino artists like Parokya ni Edgar and Gloc-9, served as more than an appreciation event. It was a symbolic affirmation of Grab and MOVE IT’s shared values: respect for labor, recognition of contribution, and a commitment to shared prosperity.

As debates around platform worker protection grow in urgency, both companies are positioning themselves as corporate pioneers of a Filipino-first model for dignified, future-ready gig work — with empathy, equity, and innovation at its core.
