Maynilad boosts water supply measures amid El Niño

Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it is stepping up efforts to ensure stable water supply as the dry season continues under El Niño conditions.

In a statement, the West Zone water concessionaire said it is strengthening its water buffer through improved network management, added supply sources, infrastructure upgrades, and efficiency measures to meet higher demand.

The company is maximizing output from its treatment plants, including modular and “New Water” facilities that convert treated wastewater into potable water. It is also optimizing operations in its southern system to lessen reliance on Angat Dam.

Maynilad is advancing key projects to improve resilience, including a 200-million-liter raw water reservoir in La Mesa and a 40-million-liter treated water reservoir in Valenzuela to stabilize supply.

It is also activating and rehabilitating deep wells to boost groundwater supply in some areas, while continuing its leak reduction program to recover lost water and improve system efficiency.

The company said these steps aim to increase water delivery without requiring new raw water sources. It added that dry season preparations are part of its regular planning and are updated yearly.

Maynilad urged the public to practice responsible water use, especially during periods of high demand.

The firm serves over 1.2 million connections across Metro Manila and nearby Cavite areas, making it the country’s largest private water concessionaire by customer base.
