Maxicare brings healthcare closer to Filipino communities

With rising costs of goods, transportation, and services, more Filipino households are putting off routine medical consultations—often because of distance, time constraints, and perceived expense. In response, Maxicare Healthcare Corporation is expanding its network of clinics to make healthcare more accessible to communities nationwide.

Maxicare Clinics are strategically located across Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, giving members and PRIMA cardholders convenient access to consultations, laboratory tests, and diagnostic services in a single facility. These services do not require a Letter of Authorization (LOA) and, in many cases, do not count against a member’s Maximum Benefit Limit (MBL), helping remove common barriers to routine care.

“Healthcare access in the Philippines has long been framed as a question of affordability, but the reality on the ground is more nuanced,” said Raymond Hernandez, group chief customer officer of Maxicare. “Even when care is covered, people delay consultations because the clinic is too far or the commute is too long.”

The clinics are positioned within residential areas, business districts, and commercial centers, making walk-in consultations more feasible for patients. Services include specialist care in pediatrics, internal medicine, OB-Gynecology, ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, and rehabilitation medicine, alongside basic laboratory and diagnostic procedures.

According to Josephine Lopez, president and CEO of Maxicare Health Services Inc., the expansion is focused on improving early access to care. “The true measure of a healthcare network is how many people actually walk through the consultation door. Every Maxicare Clinic we open brings that door closer to those who need it.”

The broader Maxicare network now includes more than 1,100 affiliated hospitals and clinics, 749 dental clinics, 126 rehabilitation, dialysis, and eye centers, and over 22,000 affiliated physicians and specialists—underscoring its continued push to make healthcare more reachable for Filipinos.
