DHL boosts Philippine trade with Manila gateway

DHL Express, the world’s top international courier, has unveiled a P560-million Manila Gateway facility in Parañaque City, a move set to supercharge the Philippines’ trade connectivity and streamline the flow of time-sensitive shipments.

The new hub, representing a EUR9-million investment, expands DHL Express Philippines’ ground network and enhances its capacity to handle rising shipment volumes. The upgraded facility can process up to 2,400 parcels per hour for imports and 2,000 per hour for exports, promising faster delivery times and smoother operations, especially during peak periods.

Handling over 90 percent of the country’s DHL shipments, the gateway serves industries including automotive, energy, engineering, and manufacturing. It also features sustainability upgrades, such as fully LED-lit operations and energy-efficient material handling systems, aligning with DHL’s global environmental goals.

Nigeria Lockett, managing director of DHL Express Philippines, highlighted that the country remains one of DHL’s key growth markets, driving ongoing investments in logistics infrastructure.

The expansion comes as global trade demonstrates resilience despite geopolitical and economic challenges, according to the DHL Global Connectedness Report 2026. The Philippines ranked 59th among 180 economies and 27th for the breadth of international connections, with major trade partners including the U.S., China, Japan, and other Asia-Pacific markets.

The Manila Gateway is expected to boost support for export-driven sectors, cross-border e-commerce, and local businesses reaching international markets, reinforcing the Philippines’ position in the global supply chain.
