Many Filipinos hide deep struggles behind a happy, held back by long-standing stigma. Cultural values such as hiya (shame) and pakikisama (getting along with others) often frame mental health challenges as weakness rather than health concerns. Workplace fears add to the burden: an International Labor Organization study shows 75 percent of Filipinos believe sharing mental health issues will hurt their careers — the highest rate in ASEAN. Cost and limited access further stop people from seeking help.
As the country’s fully integrated digital healthcare platform, mWell aims to change this. Built by Metro Pacific Health Tech Corporation, it offers accessible and affordable care designed for Filipinos. “Mind health is just as important as physical health, but too many cannot reach support due to stigma, cost, or uncertainty,” said Chaye Cabal-Revilla, mWell president and CEO. “We want every Filipino to know help is available, and caring for your mind is an act of courage.”
