The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is stepping up its sustainability push with the launch of a digital platform designed to help exporters strengthen environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting as global buyers and investors place greater scrutiny on sustainability performance.
PEZA on June 4 introduced the PEZA e-SuRGE, or Sustainability Reporting Guide for Exporters, during an event at Seda Nuvali in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Developed in partnership with Japan-based Zeroboard Inc. and TechShake, the platform digitizes the agency’s sustainability reporting framework and aims to make ESG disclosures more efficient, standardized, and accessible for PEZA-registered enterprises.
The initiative reflects a growing reality in global trade: sustainability reporting is no longer a niche corporate exercise but an increasingly important requirement for doing business.
Multinational companies, investors, and regulators are demanding greater transparency on carbon emissions, labor practices, and governance standards across supply chains.
Speaking on behalf of PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga, Deputy Director General for Policy and Planning Emmanuel Cortero said ESG considerations have become a key factor in investment decisions and international trade.
“ESG is now a business imperative,” Cortero said, noting that companies with stronger sustainability credentials are often better positioned to attract investments and secure long-term market access.
PEZA officials said e-SuRGE is designed to accommodate enterprises at different stages of sustainability maturity. The platform provides a structured framework that allows locators to assess, monitor, and gradually improve their ESG performance while aligning with evolving global reporting standards.
PEZA Group Manager Rowena Naguit said the framework offers exporters a practical and standardized approach to sustainability reporting, helping them build capabilities over time rather than treating ESG compliance as a one-time requirement.
The launch builds on PEZA’s broader sustainability agenda following the rollout of its agency-wide sustainability framework last year. The agency has been promoting greener manufacturing processes, resource efficiency, and responsible business practices across its economic zones.
The move could prove timely for Philippine exporters. As global supply chains increasingly favor suppliers with verifiable sustainability credentials, stronger ESG reporting may become a competitive advantage rather than just a compliance obligation.
Through e-SuRGE, PEZA hopes to help exporters stay ahead of these requirements while reinforcing the country’s position as a reliable and sustainable investment destination.
