Digital borrowing is becoming a regular part of household money management in the Philippines, with more Filipinos turning to mobile lending apps not just for emergencies but also to cover everyday expenses and short-term cash needs, according to a new industry study.
Research by mobile measurement and analytics firm Adjust found that the median loan size among Filipino borrowers reached P5,468 in the fourth quarter of 2025, while total loan disbursements climbed to P867 billion.
Drawing on data from the LenderLink Filipino Borrower Report and Google Survey 2025, the study showed that most digital borrowers are aged 25 to 34 and typically apply for loans once or twice a month.
The findings point to a shift in consumer behavior, with digital credit increasingly becoming a routine financial tool rather than a last resort during cash emergencies.
Adjust said the trend mirrors the rapid digitalization of financial services, as more consumers complete the entire borrowing journey through mobile apps and online platforms.
For lenders, however, attracting downloads is no longer enough.
“Borrowing is becoming a more regular financial activity for many Filipino consumers, which means lenders need to look beyond top-of-funnel metrics and focus on what happens after acquisition,” said Leo Vu, senior growth lead at Adjust.
Vu said lenders should measure the quality of customer acquisition by tracking completed applications, approved loans and repeat borrowers instead of focusing solely on app installs or marketing reach.
The study suggests that as competition intensifies in the digital lending space, companies that deliver a seamless customer experience and build long-term relationships with responsible borrowers will be better positioned for sustained growth.
The findings also underscore the expanding role of digital finance in the Philippines, where easier access to mobile-based credit is reshaping how consumers manage cash flow and giving lenders new opportunities to deepen engagement in a rapidly evolving financial services market.
