Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) has expanded its partnership with leading local renewable energy firm First Gen, bringing its Cavite campus under clean power supply starting June 2026. This makes all four LPU campuses—including Manila, Batangas, and Laguna—source electricity from First Gen’s geothermal facilities in Tongonan (Ormoc City) and Kananga, Leyte.
All agreements are arranged through the Department of Energy’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), which lets eligible consumers combine their power demand to pick their own suppliers. LPU’s Manila campus switched to the same geothermal supply in April 2026, following earlier deals for its Batangas and Laguna campuses in February this year.
LPU president Roberto Laurel said the move is more than an operational change—it reflects the university’s core values. “How we run our institution reflects what we stand for. This partnership is a visible commitment to environmental responsibility, and we hope it inspires our students to carry this mindset forward,” he added.
First Gen chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega welcomed the expanded tie-up, noting that supporting education institutions’ clean energy transition helps build lasting change for future generations.
Beyond lower energy costs, the two sides will explore cooperation in sustainability research, curriculum development, student internships, and campus environmental projects. The initiative forms part of LPU’s broader plan to align its operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically on clean energy and climate action.
