Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has restored electricity to nearly all customers affected by service interruptions caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon or Habagat, following around-the-clock efforts by its crews and field personnel.
As of 9:00 a.m. today, the number of customers still without power has dropped to approximately 2,000 from the 10,000 reported on August 17, with most outages linked to flooding. The bulk of remaining affected customers are in the provinces of Cavite and Quezon.
“Our crews and field personnel are working overtime to address concerns and safely restore power in areas affected by the Habagat. Rest assured that we will not stop until service is restored to the last affected customer,” said Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
The utility firm continues to closely monitor weather conditions, as the state weather bureau forecasts rains to persist throughout the week.
Beyond power restoration, Meralco has mobilized employee-volunteers through its One Meralco Foundation to deliver aid to hard-hit communities. Relief operations have already reached over 1,400 families in Bulacan and Cavite, including distribution efforts in Balagtas, Bulacan.
Meralco also urged the public to observe strict electrical safety amid ongoing wet weather. People are advised to stay clear of downed power lines and electrical facilities, particularly those damaged or submerged in floodwaters. Once floodwaters recede, customers should use rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes when cleaning mud from service equipment, circuit breakers, or fuse boxes. Flood-damaged appliances must not be turned on, and should be inspected by a licensed electrician before reuse, along with household wiring systems.
Customers may report power outages and other concerns via Meralco’s official Facebook and X accounts, by texting 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
