The Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX) charges P1 more for using its freeway starting at the end of the month, the Toll Regulatory Board said on Monday.
Alvin Carullo, TRB executive director, said its board approved the implementation of a P1 increase in toll at MCX on 5 January 2024.
“The toll increase will be implemented by the end of January or first week of February,” Carullo said.
The previous November, the MCX implemented a P1 increase to P18 for Class 1 vehicles, P37 for Class 2 vehicles and P55 for Class 3 vehicles.
The increase is consistent with petitions for toll rate adjustments sought under the 2018 to 2020 period filed by former owner Ayala Corp.
Prime Asset Ventures Inc., a company led by the Villar Group in August last year sealed the acquisition of MCX from Ayala Corp. for P3.8 billion.
MCX is a four-kilometer controlled-access toll road linking the southern part of Cavite to Muntinlupa. It marked the first public-private partnership project under the Aquino administration.
Ayala signed the 30-year concession agreement for the operation of MCX Expressway in 2012. It invested P2.2 billion for the project, including a P902-million cash payment to the government.
