MVP picks Rubio as MGen president and CEO

Manila Electric Co. subsidiary, Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) has appointed Emmanuel Rubio as its new president and chief executive officer starting the first day of July.

MGen said Rubio will oversee company plans and programs in keeping with the government drive to achieve energy security and global sustainability.

Prior to joining MGen, Rubio served as Aboitiz Power Corp. president and chief executive officer where he led the transition to sustainable energy and balancing its power generation portfolio.

“Manny Rubio will play a very important role as MGen actively pursues growth prospects that will bring long-term value not just to the company but also to the projects’ host communities and our country. We are excited to have him on board as we look forward to his fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will steer the power generation company towards becoming a reliable partner of the government in achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Meralco chairman and chief executive officer.

MGen also said Rubio is seen expanding its presence in the renewable energy space with the addition of 1,500 megawatts capacity and bring into fruition significant investment programs that include the proposed integrated liquefied natural gas facility currently in development.

Rubio succeeds Jaime Azurin as member of the MGen board of directors chaired by Pangilinan.

Azurin will remain as president of Global Business Power Corp., a wholly owned MGen subsidiary.
