Damage to the agriculture sector arising from the southwest monsoon and typhoon Carina totaled an estimated P612.62 million, up 53 percent from P399.91 million reported earlier, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The agency’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center said the damage impacted 11,298 metric tons of farm goods tended by 25,448 farmers and fisherfolk.
The agency said that of the 28,201 hectares damaged by the weather events, 20,009 hectares or 70.95 percent should recover but that the remaining 8,192 hectares or 29.05 percent is already lost.
DA monitoring has captured damage data from the Ilocos provinces, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga and Soccsksargen.
Damage on 8,022 MT of rice crops was valued at P507.33 million and on 2,857 MT of corn worth another P58.59 million.
High value crops weighing 1,050 MT worth P46.28 million were also reported damaged alongside P411,950 or 2,416 heads of livestock lost.
