Manila Water subsidiary bares 25-year bulk water contract in Laguna

Manila Water Co. Inc. subsidiary Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV) on Monday bared a 25-year contract to supply the Canlubang Sugar Estate (CSE) with bulk water seen boosting water access in more towns in Laguna and not just its industrial zones.

The company said the P1.4 billion bulk water project requires the rehabilitation of the Matang Tubig Spring (MTS) and the construction of a 13-kilometer water transmission line connecting the MTS to the Laguna Wellfield Reservoir at the LTI Annex in Biñan.

Construction will be undertaken by the Manila Water Infratech Solutions, its construction arm, and will be managed and operated by its operations unit, Estate Water.

The bulk water project aims to secure a more sustainable surface water supply compared to typical groundwater sources. Over the next 25 years, Estate Water will supply 17 million liters of potable water daily from MTS to Laguna Water, MWPV’s concessionaire in Laguna.

Jocot De Dios, Manila Water president and chief executive officer, said Laguna Water will replicate Manila Water’s best practices in the East Zone and offer the same quality of service to Laguna customers.

“We will make this work. We always ensure water reliability in the areas we serve within and outside Metro Manila,” De Dios said.

Manila Water serves customers in Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, some parts of Quezon City and Manila and several towns in Rizal province that include Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo and Rodriguez.

It has partnerships with water districts in Tagum, Davao del Norte, Bulacan, Clark in Pampanga, Calasiao in Pangasinan, San Jose in Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Boracay in Aklan, Cebu, as well as with property developments through Estate Water.

Overseas, Manila Water has operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
