Blueleaf Energy PH launches environmental initiative

Two hundred elementary pupils recently participated in Blueleaf Energy Philippines and NKS Solar One’s Eco-Brigada program.

Eco-Brigada is a corporate social responsibility program looking to build a community of eco-champions and supports local environmental initiatives advancing sustainability.

In launching the program, Blueleaf Energy Philippines, together with its floating solar partner NKS Solar One, conducted a school caravan in host communities in Cavinti, Kalayaan, and Lumban, Laguna where some 800 school kids benefited from the program this school year.

Employee volunteers and local partners provided a short talk on recycling and solid waste management followed by a fun game identifying common recyclable wastes.

As a culmination activity, the kids were asked to bring recyclable materials in exchange for their Balik-Eskwela kits. The Balik- Eskwela kits include books, learning materials, and school supplies.

“As a renewable energy company that values sustainability, we believe in instilling the value of environmental stewardship to young people in a fun and engaging way. Supporting the schools is also our way of empowering the communities.” says Jason Gavina, head of Community Relations and Marketing.

NKS Solar One- a 250MW floating solar project to be situated in Caliraya and Lumot Lakes in Laguna, is expected to be the first utility-scale floating solar project in the country.

The project begins construction in the fourth quarter this year having won the second round of the Green Energy Auction Program in 2023 by the Department of Energy. The project is seen operational by the first quarter of 2026.

Teacher Delsife Iwarat of Inao-awan Elementary School in Cavinti says: “We appreciate the support given by Blueleaf Energy Philippines and NKS Solar One to our schools. The additional learning materials and school kits are also very timely for the opening of classes.”

Early this August, NKS Solar One was also recognized as an outstanding stakeholder at the Cavinti Central Elementary School’s Gawad Central.
