Cebu Pacific secures landmark deal with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney

Cebu Air Inc., operator of budget carrier Cebu Pacific, said Thursday it has signed the purchase agreement with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney to the largest airplane order in Philippine aviation history.

The listed airline of the Gokongwei Group has committed to acquire up to 152 A321neo aircraft, equipped with Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines. This agreement includes firm orders for 102 A321neo aircraft and options for an additional 50 A320neo Family aircraft.

The aircraft order is valued at approximately USD24 billion, around P1.4 trillion at current foreign exchange rate.

Cebu Pacific chief executive Michael Szucs said the aircraft order underscores the airline’s unwavering optimism for the future of air travel and its commitment to reducing carbon footprint while enhancing service.

He said the aircraft purchase reflects Cebu Pacific’s dedication to operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.

Benoît de SaintExupéry, executive vice president of sales at airbus, said the Cebu Pacific order is a strong endorsement of the A321 family and highlighted the A321neo’s reputation for exceptional economics and fuel efficiency.

Pratt & Whitney’s Rick Deurloo said the GTF engine technology will empower Cebu Pacific to broaden its route offerings while achieving industry-leading fuel efficiency and sustainability.

This investment underscores the growing opportunities for aviation in the Philippines and the larger Asia-Pacific region.

Cebu Pacific’s acquisition aligns with the airline’s strategy to enhance air travel accessibility and affordability, while supporting the broader economic growth and connectivity goals of the Philippines.

The deal not only positions Cebu Pacific as a leader among low-cost carriers in the Asia-Pacific but also reaffirms its commitment to sustainable aviation practices.

The transaction was facilitated by Blue Skies Consultants, underscoring the strategic nature of this landmark agreement.

As Cebu Pacific prepares for its next chapter, this acquisition signals a renewed commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing service offerings, further solidifying its role in the region’s aviation landscape.
