The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted its nearly two-year ban on importing domestic and wild birds, as well as poultry products, from Denmark.
In a memorandum order, Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. confirmed the ban’s removal following a report from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration to the World Organization for Animal Health. The report indicated that all cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza had been resolved, with no new outbreaks since 12 September 2024.
The ban, initially imposed in December 2022 due to the avian flu outbreak in Denmark, had targeted poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen to safeguard both local consumers and the domestic poultry industry. With the latest development, Secretary Laurel emphasized that while the ban is lifted, all imports must still adhere to the DA’s established guidelines for agricultural food products.
