BOC seizes P900M worth of luxury cars in Taguig warehouse

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized an estimated P900 million worth of high-end luxury cars in Taguig City, highlighting the ongoing battle against smuggling and its tax implications for both the government and businesses. The seizure on Wednesday, the BOC’s third operation this year, took place at a warehouse in Brgy. Ususan along Levi Mariano Ave.

According to BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio, the raid yielded 44 units of smuggled luxury cars, including such brands as Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls Royce, McLaren, and Porsche. These were found at Auto Vault Speed Shop and seized by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) in collaboration with other agencies. The confiscated cars range from high-end sports models to more mid-tier luxury options, indicating a growing market for these expensive vehicles.

Verne Enciso, CIIS director, noted the diverse nature of the vehicles, with units such as the McLaren 720S and Rolls Royce Cullinan indicating a lucrative market for luxury cars in the Philippines. “These cars are in demand, and unfortunately, some groups have found a way to profit from the desire for such high-end vehicles,” said Enciso.

As part of the government’s efforts to curb smuggling, the BOC has directed warehouse owners, lessees, and other involved parties to present the necessary documentation to prove that proper duties and taxes were paid. Failure to do so within 15 days results in forfeiture. In line with Rubio’s recent announcement, individuals who purchased these vehicles in good faith and willing to pay the corresponding taxes will be given an opportunity to settle the deficiencies with the BOC.
