Globe Business, the ICT arm of Globe Telecom, has teamed up with the Asia Open RAN Academy (AORA) to fast-track the adoption of Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) technology in the Philippines. This collaboration is seen as revolutionizing the country’s telecom industry by promoting interoperability, increasing vendor diversity, and driving down costs, all while improving network performance and operational efficiency.
Chaired by Achie Atienza, director for IP Ecosystem, Strategic Infrastructure Investments at Globe Telecom, the partnership aims to transform the nation’s telecom infrastructure by encouraging innovation and enhancing connectivity. A key focus is to build a skilled workforce to support the future of telecom.
In support of this initiative, Globe Business hosted significant events at The Globe Tower. The Collaborators Appreciation Day (ACAD) in December last year celebrated AORA’s progress and contributions from major partners, while the Strategic and Operational Planning event in January this year aligned academic programs with the growing needs of the Open RAN industry. The event featured discussions on closing the skills gap and preparing local talent for the technology’s expansion.
“This collaboration, alongside our partners in academia, industry, and government, is a critical step toward building a sustainable and innovative telecom landscape for generations to come,” said KD Dizon, head of Globe Business.
