DICT allays fears over duplicated election data, assures integrity of 2025 poll results

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday assured the public that reported variance in transmission data ahead of the 2025 midterm elections are under thorough technical review and do not compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

Responding to concerns raised over duplicated transmissions during the data consolidation phase, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, who also chairs the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Advisory Council, has tasked the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau to work closely with COMELEC and other relevant agencies to verify the nature of the reports.

“Initial assessments indicate that while data transmissions from thousands of precincts were duplicated in the consolidation servers used by groups such as the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), NAMFREL, and the dominant political parties, this has no significant impact on the official results,” the DICT said in a statement.

The agency explained that the duplication was addressed through proper filtering mechanisms, ensuring the accuracy of transmitted results.

“There is no cause for alarm. The election results can still be verified and validated through the printed copies of the election returns,” the DICT emphasized.

It further reiterated that the integrity of the vote remains intact and committed to issuing further clarifications as the technical review continues.

The statement is seen as an effort to bolster public confidence amid heightened scrutiny of election systems in the lead-up to the national polls.
