Move It seeks suspension of motorcycle taxi TWG over rider cuts

Motorcycle taxi platform Move It has escalated its legal challenge against the Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MCT-TWG), now calling for the group’s outright suspension. This marks a shift from its earlier plea to merely halt the implementation of the TWG’s order reducing its rider allocation.

In a supplemental filing submitted Thursday to its pending motion for reconsideration, Move It warned that the TWG order—if enforced—could force the company to lay off over 14,000 riders, severely disrupting services for commuters just as the rehabilitation of EDSA is set to begin. The company described the move as both “arbitrary and unjust,” criticizing the April 2025 hearing that led to the decision as procedurally flawed, with no representation from key TWG members or input from Move It or its riders.

The TWG’s order directed Move It to reduce its rider force and halt operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro. Move It contends this decision violates due process under the 1987 Constitution, citing a lack of full panel participation and disregard for its compliance records.

The commercial implications are significant, affecting tens of thousands of commuters and putting the livelihood of thousands of families at risk. Move It argues the order undermines the original goals of the motorcycle taxi pilot program, especially at a time when affordable transportation is crucial.

While acknowledging the TWG’s regulatory authority, Move It insisted that such powers must be exercised within constitutional bounds, and is now urging the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to disband the TWG entirely if due process cannot be ensured.
