Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced Monday that the long-delayed Unified Grand Central Station—also known as the Common Station—is now slated for completion by 2027. The transport hub, in development since 2009, aims to interconnect LRT-1, MRT-3, MRT-7, and the upcoming Metro Manila Subway.
“This is one of the legacies that President Marcos is going to leave behind—that finally, during his term, the Common Station will be completed,” Dizon said, highlighting the administration’s commitment to finishing the P2.8 billion project.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently terminated the contract of the BFC-FDSC Consortium due to prolonged construction delays. The move followed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to expedite the project, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve commuting experience for nearly 478,000 passengers daily.
Dizon expressed confidence that construction will resume promptly under the New Government Procurement Act or through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code. Once completed, the 13,700-square meter facility will provide a seamless link among four major rail lines, easing congestion and enhancing Metro Manila’s transit infrastructure.
