Campbell set to defend title as International Series Morocco returns to Rabat

The third edition of the International Series Morocco tees off tomorrow, July 3, at the prestigious Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, promising a star-studded week of action as the Asian Tour makes its sole stop on African soil this season.

New Zealand’s Ben Campbell, last year’s champion, returns to defend the title he clinched in dramatic fashion after a sudden-death playoff against American John Catlin. The 2023 Hong Kong Open winner is back for just his second Asian Tour start of 2025, having spent most of the season competing in the LIV Golf League with the Range Goats GC. Campbell’s best LIV finish this year is a third place in Singapore, and he currently sits 33rd in the standings.

Also returning is Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand, the winner of the inaugural event in 2022, as the field of 156 players gets ready to battle it out over four rounds on the par-73, 7,596-yard Red Course. The event carries a purse of US$2 million, with US$360,000 going to the winner.

This year’s tournament includes a deep international field representing 31 countries, with four amateurs and eight Moroccan players, including local favorite Ayoub Lguirati, who made headlines in 2022 with a T28 finish. The course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is once again set to offer a tough but beautiful test, just 15 minutes from central Rabat.

The field also boasts several Asian Tour stars:

     • John Catlin (USA), the current highest-ranked player in the field at World No. 154, and 2024 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner. He finished runner-up here last year and has a top-10 finish this season in New Zealand.

     • Sadom Kaewkanjana (THA), fresh off his win at the Kolon Korea Open, also holds a runner-up finish at the Smart Infinity Philippine Open and sits second on the Order of Merit.

     • Ollie Schniederjans (USA), the 2025 International Series India champion, currently tied for second in the International Series Rankings.

     • Julien Sale (FRA), who won the Smart Infinity Philippine Open.

     • Peter Uihlein (USA), a two-time International Series winner in 2024, is another top contender, with a strong LIV and Asian Tour pedigree.

     • Scott Vincent (ZIM) has had a consistent 2025, including top-10s on both the Asian and Japan Golf Tours.

The tournament will also feature major winner Charl Schwartzel (RSA), rising American Caleb Surratt, and 2023 International Series champion Andy Ogletree.

This week marks a milestone for Filipino cousins Carl Jano Corpus and Aidric Chan, who earned their places in the field by excelling at the Asian Development Tour’s (ADT) recent swing in Marrakech. Chan won the first event, while Corpus took the second, securing the top two spots on the cumulative money list. Chan also leads the ADT Order of Merit, further underlining the pair’s bright future.
