Damage to the agriculture sector brought about by tropical depression (TD) Amang is estimated at P12.34 million, according to initial estimates by the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center.

The attached agency said the damage as at 12:00 noon Thursday is equivalent to 664 metric tons of goods tended by 1,324 farmers and fisherfolk in 1,097 hectares of affected areas.

These relate to captured data from Camarines Sur and Sorsogon in the Bicol region.

The bulk of reported damage relates rice at P8.07 million, followed by high-value crops worth P4.15 million and livestock and poultry of another P126,000.

The DA regional field offices continue to monitor the effects of TD Amang in the sector.

The agency said current available assistance and interventions for distribution to affected farmers include rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry; fingerlings and assistance to affected fisherfolk; survival and recovery loan programs from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council of up to P25,000 payable in three years at zero interest; and a quick-response fund for the rehabilitation of affected areas.
