SMDC donates land for Kamuning footbridge

SM Development Corp. (SMDC) has donated the lot for the northbound and southbound stairway landings of the new Kamuning footbridge, a key component of the EDSA Busway Kamuning Concourse, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon lauded the donation as a strong example of public-private collaboration. “We want to thank SMDC, and the President is really happy to see both the public and private sector working hard to give our commuters the best transport infrastructure they deserve,” Dizon said.

The new footbridge replaces the steep and controversial “Mt. Kamuning” structure, which President Marcos ordered removed in June due to accessibility issues.

The DOTr is allocating ₱89.12 million for the modern Kamuning Concourse, which will include a pedestrian-friendly walkway, wheelchair lifts, and other mobility features. Modeled after the SM North Concourse, the new footbridge will be pre-fabricated to avoid disrupting commuters and motorists during construction.

Completion of the EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge is expected by December.
