Love Buses return as PBBM’s birthday gift to commuters

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has launched new electric “Love Buses” in Valenzuela City as part of a free-ride program for Metro Manila commuters. The initiative was introduced as a birthday gift from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on his 68th birthday, reviving the iconic 1970s Love Bus concept.

More known as PBBM, President Marcos highlighted the benefits of the electric buses, saying they will offer a more comfortable, cost-saving commute—especially for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens. He also emphasized the environmental and fuel-saving advantages of the initiative.

“This Love Bus is a big help in reducing pollution, in saving fuel. It is also a big help for PWDs and senior citizens,” Marcos said, adding that a student discount program will also be rolled out soon.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced plans to expand the Love Bus program to other urban areas nationwide, in line with the President’s goal of improving daily commutes.

Five electric buses will serve routes including the Valenzuela Gate Complex (VGC)-DSWD Batasan Hills Loop and VGC-PITX, with each route expected to accommodate up to 600 passengers daily. The buses feature PWD-accessible amenities such as wheelchair ramps.

In Metro Manila, rides on the Love Bus will be free for all passengers throughout September. Starting October, rides will remain free for registered PWDs and senior citizens. Other commuters can avail of free rides during peak hours: 6–9 AM and 5–8 PM. Registration via the Love Bus App will be required for continued access.
