Alfamart open doors to MSME franchising

Alfamart Philippines, the minimart chain under the SM Group, has launched its franchising program, opening new opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to grow alongside its nationwide expansion.

The program’s pilot phase began in Laguna, with the first franchise store opening in October 2024 in partnership with longtime Alfamart lessor Engineer Leovino C. Datario. A second store followed in August 2025, led by Arles A. Uy, Jr. of AAU Corporation, which operates 15 laundromats adjacent to Alfamart branches.

As of end-September 2025, Alfamart has grown to 2,337 stores nationwide.

“This reflects the SM Group’s commitment to inclusive growth and entrepreneurship,” said Harvey T. Ong, COO of Alfamart Philippines. “By allowing tenants to evolve into franchisees, Alfamart is enabling MSMEs to scale alongside its expansion, strengthening local communities and livelihoods.”

A joint venture between SM and Indonesia’s Alfamart, the chain offers a broad selection of affordable daily essentials, blending the convenience of a neighborhood store with the range of a supermarket — a format gaining traction across Southeast Asia.

Franchise inquiries may be directed to Alfamart Philippines via email.
