NGCP cuts transmission rates for the September billing

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has reduced its overall average transmission rate by 1.23 percent for the September 2025 billing period, which will reflect in customers’ October bills. The rate now stands at P1.3998 per kilowatt hour (kWh), down from P1.4171/kWh in August.

According to NGCP, the decrease is mainly due to cuts in both transmission wheeling charges and ancillary service (AS) rates. Ancillary service rates declined by 1.7 percent, now at P0.6546/kWh compared to P0.6659/kWh the previous month. The AS charges are pass-through costs paid to power generators through bilateral contracts and the reserve market. NGCP reiterated that it does not earn from the AS and is not affected by fluctuations in their pricing.

Meanwhile, transmission wheeling rates—the charges for delivering electricity across the grid—also dropped by 0.84 percent, from P0.5970/kWh in August to P0.5920/kWh in September.

In a briefing held in San Juan City, NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza highlighted the company’s commitment to disaster resilience. She explained that despite the unpredictability of calamities, the NGCP has factored in geological risks as early as the planning stage. Infrastructure is sited with consideration to fault lines, terrain, and flooding risks, recognizing the country’s vulnerability as part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.

NGCP remains the private firm responsible for operating, maintaining, and developing the Philippines’ state-owned power transmission grid.
