NLEX clears and upgrades road shoulders to ease traffic, boost safety

NLEX Corporation has finished clearing and regrading road shoulders along the busy stretch between the Harbor Link Interchange and Marilao to help manage heavy traffic during peak travel periods.

The project covered about 10,000 meters in both directions. Crews removed sand, grass, and debris to free up space, improved the slope for better drainage, and added a new 150-mm base layer in some areas to make the surface more stable and smoother.

NLEX president and general manager Luis S. Reñon said the upgraded shoulders will allow stalled vehicles and minor incidents to be moved or resolved more quickly, helping traffic return to normal sooner. He added that the shoulders may also be opened to vehicles in rare cases of heavy congestion under patrol supervision.

The toll operator reminded motorists that shoulder lanes are not for parking, idling, or resting, as they play a key role in road safety and traffic flow.

NLEX is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the toll road unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
