Starting this December, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) will begin rolling out new biometric immigration eGates at Ninoy Aquino International Airport — a major step toward speeding up passenger processing.
The eGates, powered by global travel-tech company Amadeus and operated by the Bureau of Immigration, use passport scanning and facial recognition to move travelers through immigration checks more quickly and with less hassle. They’ll be placed in Terminals 1 and 3, where international passengers line up for immigration.
The first set of eGates is expected to go live in December 2025, with full deployment following early next year. The project is funded by NNIC while the Bureau of Immigration handles operations, allowing the system to roll out smoothly alongside NAIA’s other ongoing upgrades.
Once switched on, the eGates will work with the new biometric checkpoints NNIC has already introduced at check-in, security, and boarding.
“Our goal is to make each part of the airport experience more comfortable for passengers,” Ang said. “These eGates will help ease congestion at immigration and support overall improvements across NAIA.”
With NAIA processing more than 50 million passengers last year — well beyond its original capacity — the move toward automated systems is a crucial step in keeping travel smooth as passenger numbers continue to grow.
