MIAA electrical audit seen completed in three weeks

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday started the electrical audit of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 with the assistance of power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

The audit is expected to be completed in three weeks, according to MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co.

According to Co, the audit will allow MIAA to determine the various equipment requiring an upgrade, rehabilitation or purchase to make the NAIA Terminal 3’s power system reliable and resilient.

The MIAA will then determine the timeline and the required budget for the purchase of critical components of its electrical facilities and generator sets to implement the power systems upgrade.

“Yes, we need to buy or lease additional generators and we are discussing with stakeholders the timing and budget required,” said Co.

As an immediate move, the MIAA is exploring the option of leasing generator sets to boost the capacity of Terminal 3’s back-up power.
