The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has released ₱81.34 million in fire insurance claims to the City Government of Manila for losses caused by the Pritil Market fire in Tondo.
The fire destroyed about 584 market stalls and affected the livelihoods of hundreds of vendors. GSIS Executive Vice President Jason Teng turned over the check on behalf of GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
Mayor Moreno thanked GSIS for the settlement. The city has also renewed fire insurance coverage for its hospitals, public schools, and other government buildings to protect essential services during emergencies.
