The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday puts up P5.24 billion worth of motorcycle and car plates for auction as part of the procurement process.
The agency is inviting bidders for its procurement of motorcycle blank metal plates, motor vehicle plates, RFID stickers, hot stamping foil, thermal transfer ribbon, carton boxes and plastic bags
“Bidding should be conducted through open competitive bidding procedures using a non-discretionary “pass/fail” criterion as specified in the 2016 revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 9184,” DOTr said.
The agency said a complete set of bidding documents for P75,000 may be acquired by interested bidders from 6 June until 26 June 2023.
The bids and awards committee will hold the pre bid conference on 14 June 2023 while the opening of the bids is set on 26 Juneat 10:30 am.
“The DOTr reserves the right to reject any and all bids, declare a failure of bidding or not award the contract at any time prior to contract award in accordance with Section 35.6 and 41 of the 2016 revised IRR of RA No. 9184 without thereby incurring any liability to the affected bidder or bidders,” the agency said.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) earlier warned of a shortage in license plates by June or July if the government fails to procure the plates.
The LTO in April also announced a shortage of some 5.2 million plastic driver’s license cards. To temporarily address the problem, the agency extended all driver’s licenses set to expire by 24 April to 31 October 2023.
The agency also partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to roll out digital driver’s licenses to help resolve the shortage of plastic cards.
