Meat imports jumped 22.9 percent in the first two months this year, reaching 292.1 million kilograms, up from 237.7 million kg during the same period in 2025, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) reported Tuesday.
Pork accounted for the largest share, totaling 151.8 million kg, or 52 percent of all imported meat—a 22.4 percent increase from 124.05 million kg in early 2025. Chicken imports followed at 98.93 million kg, up 28 percent from 77.31 million kg, making up 33.9 percent of total meat imports.
Beef imports rose slightly to 33.19 million kg, representing 11.4 percent of the total, while buffalo meat imports nearly doubled to 7.48 million kg. Lamb imports increased by 109.7 percent to 170,044 kg, and duck imports surged dramatically by 2,878 percent to 552,236 kg. Meanwhile, turkey imports dropped sharply by 95.6 percent to just 1,282 kg.
According to the Department of Agriculture’s Bantay Presyo data in Metro Manila markets, current prices range from P155 to P450 per kg for chicken and pork cuts, and P380 to P550 per kg for beef.
