DOE inspects ₱5.27B Boracay transmission project nearing completion

The Department of Energy (DOE), together with the Energy Regulatory Commission, National Transmission Corporation, and National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, inspected the ₱5.27-billion Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay transmission line project.

The DOE said the project is now 93.16 percent complete and is expected to improve the reliability and stability of power supply in Aklan, especially on Boracay Island.

Once finished, the transmission line will help meet rising electricity demand, reduce outages, and support investments in renewable energy. It is also seen to strengthen the power grid against technical and environmental risks.

Several parts of the project are already operational, including the Nabas substation and key transmission lines energized between 2023 and early 2026. Other components, such as the Boracay substation and underground cables, are still under construction but are nearing completion.

The DOE said some works are being done at night to comply with airport safety rules, with full completion of these segments targeted by June 2026.

The entire project is expected to be completed by August 2026. Once operational, it will serve over 155,000 households, more than 13,000 businesses, and 27 industries in Aklan.

The DOE said the project is crucial to supporting tourism, economic growth, and long-term energy security in the province.
