Japan backs Pasig infrastructure, strengthens PH ties

Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya met with Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto at the temporary Pasig City Hall to discuss ongoing cooperation and future partnerships.

Ambassador Endo highlighted Japan’s long-standing support for the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project through its official development assistance (ODA). He expressed hope for continued collaboration between Japan and Pasig City.

He also noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines, and discussed possible ways to celebrate the milestone in Pasig.

Mayor Sotto welcomed the ambassador and thanked Japan for its support, giving updates on current ODA-funded projects in the city.

Both officials also discussed renewable energy and environmental initiatives, exploring opportunities for further cooperation.
