Megaworld builds beach hub in Ilocos Norte

Megaworld Corp., the listed property development arm of tycoon Andrew Tan, is expanding its footprint in northern Luzon with plans for a flagship beach club inside its 84-hectare, P15-billion Ilocandia Coastown, signaling a shift from simply selling seaside homes to curating an entire coastal lifestyle.

The Ilocandia Beach Club, set along a 1.4-kilometer stretch of coastline in Laoag City, is positioned as the area’s first dedicated beach club, borrowing cues from the relaxed yet polished vibe of Sentosa Island. If the earlier residential village brought people to the beach, this next phase is designed to give them reasons to stay longer.

At its core is a beach-facing club facility with pools, a fitness center, and private lounges, all oriented toward the sea. A promenade lined with restaurants, cafés, and shops will serve as the township’s social corridor, where flip-flops and business plans may increasingly share the same walkway.

Megaworld is framing the beach club as the centerpiece of Ilocandia Coastown’s identity, not just an amenity but a magnet for both residents and visitors. The design leans heavily on openness and movement, with shaded arcades, jogging paths, and beachfront lounging areas encouraging a steady flow between built spaces and the shoreline.

Land development is slated to begin early next year, as the company builds out what it describes as its first fully integrated live-work-play township in the Ilocos Region. The site sits near the Fort Ilocandia Hotel and within easy reach of Paoay Church, adding cultural tourism to its draw.

The broader play is clear. As regional travel rebounds and infrastructure improves, developers are no longer just building destinations, they are staging experiences. In Ilocandia Coastown, the beach is still the main attraction, but increasingly, it comes with a carefully planned supporting cast.
