TikTok Shop intensifies PH counterfeit crackdown

TikTok Shop is sharpening its offensive against counterfeit goods in the Philippines, stepping up local enforcement and education as part of a sweeping global purge of IP-violating listings.

The platform said it rejected more than 40 million product listings and removed over 2 million more worldwide in the first half of 2025 alone, highlighting the scale of the problem—and the urgency of tightening controls across fast-growing online marketplaces.

In the Philippines, TikTok Shop is pairing enforcement with on-the-ground engagement. It recently teamed up with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines to stage an IP Bootcamp that gathered brands, rights holders, and platform partners to bolster compliance and awareness. Timed with National Intellectual Property Month, the event spotlighted the platform’s Intellectual Property Protection Center (IPPC), which allows brands to register trademarks, track listings, and flag suspected violations in real time.

The company is also rolling out its #TikTokShopSmart campaign, aimed at arming consumers with tools to spot fake products while helping sellers better protect their brands.

Industry players say the tighter safeguards come at a critical time, as counterfeit risks threaten trust in e-commerce platforms. This is especially true for TikTok Shop Mall, where verified authenticity is key to attracting both brands and buyers.

By combining global enforcement muscle with localized partnerships, TikTok Shop is signaling a more aggressive, coordinated stance against fakes. For the Philippine market, the push could help raise consumer confidence, draw in more legitimate sellers, and sustain momentum in the country’s rapidly expanding digital commerce sector.
