SM Group expands scholarships for uniformed personnel, families

The SM Group is increasing scholarship support for uniformed personnel and their families to improve access to quality education and promote inclusive growth.

Through its schools, National University (NU) and Asia Pacific College (APC), the group is offering more opportunities for senior high school, college, and graduate studies, especially for those with limited access to education.

NU recently renewed its partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), providing up to 2,250 scholarship slots across 15 campuses nationwide. The program covers active personnel and their dependents, and includes internships and training to improve job readiness.

Scholars receive a 20% discount on tuition and fees, while dependents of personnel killed in action are granted full scholarships.

At APC, more than 1,200 scholars from the AFP and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been supported since 2006. Programs focus on IT, engineering, and business to help advance careers.

Beneficiaries say the scholarships ease financial burdens and improve career opportunities. Graduates also report gaining skills that strengthen their service and leadership.

Separately, the SM Foundation continues to assist uniformed personnel through healthcare programs, including medical equipment donations and facility development.

The initiative is part of SM’s long-term effort to use education to boost workforce development and economic participation.
